The Rusk County Farmers Market Association was organized in 2004. There were fourteen members signed on and the market opened on North Main Street in front of the Rusk County Courthouse. It was a successful year and customers who began purchasing produce then are still loyal customers today.
The second year of operation had the market moving to private property on Southwood Drive just off of Highway 79 S. close to the intersection of 259 S. Our customers moved with us and new vendors signed on. Of course, some of the previous year’s vendors elected not to return, but the average has been consistent.
Our members are determined to bring the best they have to the market. They are also persistent. Produce growers plant specific crops and when those are all harvested or the weather throws a fit and creates severe drought, too much rain, hail, too many cold nights, then that farmer or backyard gardener has a problem getting enough produce to the market. The Rusk County Farmers Market has weathered seven years of these types of issues and we are set to start the eighth year, hoping for perfect weather all season. We encourage you to come shop at the farmers market and stay to visit a while, something we all enjoy.
